Latino
[edit]I read that Jim Plunkett may have been a Latino. Anyone know his ethnicity? May be helpful for categorization purposes.--Rockero 09:19, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
I am almost sure he's part Native American. Mitchell k dwyer 10:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- The external link say "90% Mexican American". That doesn't seem likely, as geneology breaks down in halves, quarters, eighths, etc., and not tenths. But they might have just had the numbers wrong. NM is a highly Hispanic state, but also a highly Native American state. Maybe he hould be categorized under both? (The other 10% may be American Indian...)--Rockero 10:21, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Jim Plunkett is the only quarterback eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame that has led his team to two Superbowl victories that is not in the Superbowl. Tom Brady has won three Superbowls but is not yet elgivle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tahoejohn (talk • contribs) 01:17, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Latino?
[edit]The biographical information in the entry says that Plunkett is Mexican-American and gets his surname from his Irish-German paternal great-grandfather. I believe that makes him 7/8ths Mexican and 1/8th Irish-German if I did the sums correctly.
I'll leave it up to the ethnic experts to argue among themselves about whether Mexicans are Latino. The answer seems obvious, but maybe it isn't. I'll leave it to the experts. (71.22.47.232 (talk) 20:05, 15 September 2010 (UTC))
Being born in the state of New Mexico would not make him Mexican. However, it appears that a majority of his ancestors were Mexican/Latino and that makes him Mexican/Latino. 66.162.249.170 (talk) 21:48, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
